The use of the Imperfect in Italian language

The use of the past tense in Italian is different from the use of it in English. I think that it’s not so easy to understand, for example, the difference between the use of passato prossimo and the use of imperfetto. Today I would like to explain when we normally use the tense Imperfect:

when we express a habit or a repitition, example:
da bambina Lucia era molto timida
when we do physical and atmospheric description, example:
Ieri faceva caldo!
Da ragazzo avevo i capelli biondi
when we use expressions like “stare + gerund” and “stare per”
Ieri stavamo guardando la TV
Stavamo per uscire quando è squillato il telefono
after the word “mentre”
il mio capo è arrivato mentre leggevo il giornale
when we do psychological descriptions, or we express a sensation or a feeling, example:
La scorsa settimana sono rimasto in casa perchè ero depresso
Lucia non si sentiva bene ieri sera, mi sembrava che avesse dei problemi
when we express a continuous unfinished action in an indefinite time, example:
Lucia era in casa e guardava la televisione (when? not definite time)
Aspettavo l’autobus da un po’ di tempo, quando è passato un mio amico con la moto
[In the case of action in definite time, normally we prefer to use the passato prossimo (ex,: Ieri sera ho letto il giornale)]
when we begin a fairy tale, example:
