Italian informal Imperative and pronouns
In Italian, when we use informal imperative in positive senteces with a direct, indirect and double object pronouns and also with ci and ne, we use these pronouns and particles as suffix and join them together to the imperative forming a single word. Example: Guardalo!; Diteglielo!; Andiamoci!; Parlane! Parlagliene!
In the case which the informal impierative is a monosyllable (like va’, da’, fa’, etc.), the pronouns (direct and indirect pronouns, but never with double object pronouns) and particles double the initial consonant and it becomes: vacci, dallo, falla, etc.
Note!
With the indirect pronoun gli there is no double -g: digli, dagli (but , on the contrary, dille, dalle).
In case of informal imperative in negative sentences, we have two possibilities:
- the pronoun or the particle precedes the imperative, example:
Il ristorante è pieno. Non ci andiamo!
La frutta è troppo cara. Non la comprare! - the pronoun and the particle is joined to the imperative as a suffix, example:
Il ristorante è pieno! Non andiamoci!
La frutta è troppo cara. Non comprarla!
