Two ways to say in Italian where I come from
When I teach Italian and my students introduce themself, I often listen to say: “vengo dalla Germania” (ok) and also: “Sono dalla Germania” or “Sono da Francoforte”.
If we have to indicate the origin: with the verb venire we use the preposition da, but we can also use the verb essere, if we want to express the city where we come from and, in this case, we have to use the preposition di. Also I can say “vengo da Roma” or “sono di Roma”.
The verb essere + da + name of persons means to be at home of someone
