-->

After definite articles, now we analyse the correct use of the indefinite Italian articles. Also this kind of articles have genres, and we can classify indefinite masculine and feminine articles.

Masculine indefinite article

There are two masculine indefinite articles:
un and uno

We use un with most masculine nouns (also with masculine nouns which begin with a vowels), example:

a train - un treno
a friend - un amico

We use uno with masculine nouns which begin with:

  1. s + consonant;
    a student - uno studente
  2. g + n;
    a gnome - uno gnomo
  3. p + s;
    a psychologist - uno spicologo
  4. x-, y-, z;
    a xylophone - uno xilofono
    a yacht - uno yacht
    a backpack - uno zaino

Feminine indefinite article

The feminine indefinite article is una
example:

a mother- una madre
a girl - una ragazza

We use un’ with feminine nouns which begin with an italian vowel (a,e,i,o,u), example:

a friend - un’amica
